Biography:
Warren E. Hill, MD has been the Medical Director of East Valley Ophthalmology in Mesa, Arizona for the past 24 years, specializing in consultative ophthalmology, challenging anterior segment surgery for other ophthalmologists, intraocular lens power calculations and diagnostic ophthalmic ultrasonography.
Dr. Hill completed BS and BA undergraduate degrees at the University of Maryland,
received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arizona College of
Medicine, completed two years of internal medicine training at Good Samaritan
Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona and three years of ophthalmology training
at the University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York. He is certified in
general ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has subspecialty
certification in anterior segment surgery by the American Board of Eye Surgery.
Dr. Hill is also a member of the International Intra-Ocular Implant Club,
a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology,
the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Eye Surgeons.
In 1995, 1996, 1998, 2002 and again in 2004 Dr. Hill was voted a "Top
Doc"
in the specialty of ophthalmology by medical peers in Phoenix
Magazine. In 2005 and 2006 Dr. Hill was voted "One of the Top 50 Opinion
Leaders in Cataract and Refractive Surgery" by the readership of Cataract
and Refractive Surgery Today.

Dr. Hill has devoted the majority of his professional activities to performing challenging anterior segment surgery for other ophthalmologists and the mathematics of intraocular lens power calculations in complex and unusual clinical situations. He is a consultant to industry in the field of intraocular lens mathematics, intraocular lens design, and optical coherence biometry. In this area has given the Charles H. May Memorial Lecture for the New York Academy of Medicine, the Barry and Jack Kayes Lectureship in Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences for Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, the John Balian Memorial Lecture for the Michigan Keratorefractive Society, the Kenneth C. Swan Lectureship for Casey Eye Institute of the Oregon Health and Science University, and the Bernard C. Gettes Lecture for the Wills Eye Hospital. He has published many scientific articles, served as visiting professor for numerous grand rounds, and has delivered more than 300 presentations to ophthalmic societies both in the United States and internationally in 26 countries and on six continents. He has been the keynote speaker for the Society for Excellence in Eyecare, the Special Cataract Surgery Lecturer for the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology Society and the Co-Chairman of the Advanced Phacoemulsification Surgery Course of the Singapore National Eye Centre. In 2007, Dr. Hill served as the Co-Chairman of the Cataract/Lens Symposium of the 2007 Asia ARVO meeting in Singapore and also gave a live surgery demonstration in Guayaquil, Ecuador that was carried via satellite to ten Latin American countries during the Curso Perlas de la Facoemulsificactión. In 2008 Dr. Hill performed live surgery at the annual meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in Chicago, Illinois and at the XLIV Annual Meeting of Romanian Ophthalmologists in Iasi, Romania.
Dr. Hill has been a Consultation Section contributor and article reviewer for the Journal
of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Journal of Refractive Surgery, and the British on-line journal BMC
Ophthalmology. He has served as the Instrumentation Section Editor for Techniques
in Ophthalmology, is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Cataract
and Refractive Surgery Today and was the Associate Editor of the textbook Mastering
Refractive IOLs - the Art and Science. Dr. Hill was chosen to author for the American Academy of Ophthalmology's monograph: Complex
Axial Length Measurements and Unusual IOL Power Calculations and was appointed as an editorial faculty responsible for Clinical
Optics, Section 3 of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Basic and Clinical Science Course. In 2005 Dr. Hill was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Eye Surgeons. In 2007 Dr. Hill received the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Achievement Award and was appointed the Cataract and Anterior Segment Subspecialty Editor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Ophthalmic News and Education (O.N.E.) Network. In 2008, Dr. Hill was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Gold Medal in Ophthalmology of the International Academy for Advances in Ophthalmology and in 2009 he was the recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Secretariat Award.
Aside from the practice of ophthalmology, Dr. Hill enjoys flying military airplanes and maintains proficiency as a multi-engine commercial pilot. He has been licensed as an amateur radio operator since 1964, is a member of the German High Speed Morse Code Society and has held foreign amateur radio licenses in Albania, Finland, The Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, México, The Union of Myanmar and the Maldive Republic. In November of 2003 Dr. Hill was selected by the American Radio Relay League to lead the United States Amateur Radio Delegation to Tirana, Albania as part of a multi-national training program in conjunction with the International Amateur Radio Union and the Albanian Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
